Doing Our Part

At ADAGIO, we believe that we have a responsibility to support others in need.

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder characterised by seizures, which are a result of nerve cell activity being distorted.

Epilepsy typically conjures an unpleasant image of a tonic clonic seizure, a fit characterised by jerking and tensing of the body. The seizure can be likened to uncoordinated break-dancing that induces fear rather than admiration from spectators.

When the person becomes conscious again, they are struck with confusion, fatigue and headache, amongst other things. Imagine the ache from the worst hangover you’ve ever had, doubled, and you may be able to empathise. Some people even lose control of bodily functions and soil themselves. Depending on where they are, they may injure themselves. Picture the state they would be in- embarrassed and ashamed of something over they do not have control.

Although tonic clonic seizures are the best known, there are over 40 different types of seizures. Someone staring into space, non-responsive, could be having a seizure.

For the most part, the general public are beginning to understand epilepsy as a condition. Treatments such as cannabis oil are becoming available to young, severely disabled epileptic children.
People with epilepsy often encounter stigma. There is ongoing social stigma associated with epilepsy, perpetuated by old wives’ tales, ignorance and fear of the unknown.

As we at ADAGIO know people who are affected by epilepsy, we feel that epilepsy does not receive the attention nor the donations it deserves.

The Epilepsy Foundation is a non-profit organisation in Australia which provides support for all affected by epilepsy, be it the person having a seizure or their families and friends. Medications, doctors and hospitalisations can be pricey, particularly for those with severe, uncontrolled epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Foundation do a stellar job in providing immeasurable support. Therefore part of our proceeds will be donated to them.
